SPIKE BENCH
A Reinterpretation of Spikes

Spikes are considered one of the most brutal forms of defensive design. In this modular bench, their exclusionary function is reinterpreted and integrated as a meaningful, connective element. Challenging conventional ideas of accessibility, the seating object aims to provoke thought about the dynamics of public space – particularly regarding public seating and the marginalization of certain groups. CNC-turned, the spikes function like screws. Located in places that feel socially exclusionary, the bench questions the social dynamics embedded in urban environments.

FAMILIE GREIF
The Design Deficit of Everyday Aids

Interaction with physical products is usually manual. However, not everyone interacts with them in the same way. Familie Greif simplifies the process of opening standard glass bottles for users with motor impairments, enabling more inclusive access.

With enlarged gripping surfaces and ergonomic moulds, the aids are comfortable to hold and allow for effective force transmission. Bottle caps with the standard PP28 thread type can be used individually. The design and colour language loosen up the functionality of conventional aids. An aid that not only exists in a medical context, but can also be used in everyday life thanks to its unobtrusive functionality and universal design. The individual shapes are CNC-milled.

Dimensions: 210 × 105 × 30 mm
Material: Industrial Cork
