Spikes are considered one of the most brutal forms of defensive design. The modular bench reinterprets the exclusionary function of spikes and integrates them as a meaningful, connective element. The seating object challenges conventional ideas of accessibility and aims to provoke thought about the dynamics of public space – particularly with regard to public seating and the marginalization of certain groups. CNC-turned, the spikes function like screws.
